Privacy Policy

Yabike is a personal finance app for the mobile money era. This policy explains what the Yabike Android app and the Yabike website collect, why, who it is shared with, and how you can delete it. It applies to every user of Yabike.

The short version

Yabike is built to keep your financial data on your phone. Your budgets, wallets, goals and transactions live in a local database on your device, and the app works fully without an account. Data leaves your phone only when you turn on a feature that needs the server: signing in, cloud backup, importing a MoMo statement, or asking the AI assistant.

Data we collect on your device

Transaction SMS. With your permission, Yabike reads the mobile money messages on your phone and parses them into transactions. Parsing happens entirely on your device. We do not upload your SMS inbox, and messages that are not mobile money notifications — including one-time passcodes and personal messages — are excluded and never stored.

Contacts. If you use the send-money beneficiary picker, the app reads your contacts on the device to let you choose a recipient. Only the name and number you pick are saved, and only locally. Your contact list is never uploaded.

Camera and photos. The receipt scanner uses your camera or a photo you choose, and reads the text from it using on-device text recognition. The image is processed on your phone and is not uploaded to us.

Phone. To run a mobile money USSD code for you, Yabike asks for permission to place the call and dials the code on your device. We do not read your call log and we do not place calls you have not asked for.

Budgets, wallets, goals, debts and notes. Everything you enter is stored in a local database on your device. If you enable app lock, your device biometrics or PIN are checked by Android; we never see them.

Data we collect on our servers

Account. If you sign in with Google, we receive your Google account identifier and email address, and store them to identify your account. We do not receive your Google password. Some accounts also hold a mobile number, used to match an imported statement to its owner.

Cloud backup. If you turn on backup, your app data is encrypted on your device with a key issued to your account, and the encrypted archive is uploaded and stored so you can restore it on a new phone.

MoMo statements. When you request a statement import, your mobile money statement is delivered to a mailbox Yabike operates, parsed into transactions, and stored against your mobile number so it can be handed to your app. We access only statements addressed to Yabike for this purpose.

Subscriptions. Payments and trials are recorded so we know what your account is entitled to. Card and mobile money payment details are handled by our payment processor; we never see or store them.

Usage counts. We record how many AI requests your account makes, to enforce fair-use limits and understand demand.

The AI assistant

When you ask the AI assistant a question, your app computes the figures locally and sends a summary of the relevant financial information, together with your question, to our server. Our server forwards it to Google’s Gemini API to generate the answer, and returns the reply to you. This financial summary is not stored on our servers after the answer is produced. If you never use the AI assistant, none of your financial data is sent for this purpose.

How we use your data

We use the data above only to run the features you have asked for: showing you your transactions and budgets, restoring your data on a new device, importing your statement, answering your AI questions, handling your subscription, and keeping the service secure and working. We do not use your financial data for advertising.

Sharing

We do not sell your data and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. We share only what a feature requires, with the providers that make it work:

  • Google — for sign-in, and for the Gemini API that generates AI answers.
  • Our payment processor — to take subscription payments.
  • Our SMS provider — to deliver service messages, where applicable.
  • Our hosting provider — which stores the server-side data described above on our behalf.

We may also disclose data where the law requires it, or where it is necessary to protect our users or the service.

Retention

Data on your device stays until you delete it in the app or uninstall Yabike. Server-side account data, backups and statement data are kept while your account is active, and are deleted when you delete your account. Records we are required to keep for accounting or legal reasons — such as a record that a payment was made — are retained with your personal details removed.

Deleting your account and data

You can delete your account from inside the app, under Account & Sync. Deleting your account permanently removes your cloud backups, your imported statement data, your trial and subscription records, and your AI usage records from our servers. Data held only on your phone is removed by clearing the app’s data or uninstalling it.

You can also ask us to delete your account, or to give you a copy of the data we hold about you, by emailing yabike.app@gmail.com.

Our account deletion page sets out both routes step by step, and lists exactly what is erased and what we are required to keep.

Security

Cloud backups are encrypted on your device before they are uploaded. Traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit. Access to our systems is restricted to the people who need it to operate the service. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your data.

Children

Yabike is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has given us data, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Yabike changes. The date at the top of this page shows the most recent revision, and material changes will be announced in the app.
